Launched in 2010, The Tryall Fund Scholarship Initiative helps Jamaican students at every stage of education unlock their potential and create positive local impact. What began with 17 awards has grown into a sustained program: to date we’ve granted 3000 scholarships totaling over $3M USD, and awarding over 300 scholarships annually.
Created by Wilson and Jean Tirey-Sexton to fund an additional grant recognizing the year’s most outstanding scholar. This year’s Sexton Award recipient is Sanique Jarrett, who is attending UTech to study nursing.
Honoring Mikhail Bartley and his dream of studying software engineering, this award celebrates candidates who reflect Mikhail’s talents and character. This year’s Bartley Award recipient is Dominic Ramnarine, who will study medicine at UWI.
We proudly support a diverse cohort of learners — ages 12 to 57 — across 40 institutions in Jamaica, from high school through graduate programs. Recipients pursue a wide range of fields and return value to their communities.
Applicants are evaluated by a panel of readers based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement and a personal essay. Each applicant is paired with a Tryall Fund staff sponsor who supports them through the application and award process.
